Home Learning
Throughout their time in Year 1, children are expected to engage in a variety of home learning activities to support their understanding and learning of the content they have been taught.
English:
Spelling:
Each week the children will be given 5 words (increasing to 8 later in the year) linking to Phonics/Common Exception Words. Children will be expected to write each word out 5 times in their homework books, using their handwriting sayings to ensure letters are formed correctly.
Phonics:
Each week, the children will be given two worksheets to complete to consolidate two of the phonemes taught that week. Children need to add the sound buttons to the words, blend and read them. They then need to read the sentences and practise writing the grapheme.
Reading:
Children will have their own Reading Journals where the reading that they do at home can be recorded through a variety of different activities. They will also get time in school to share their Reading Journals with the class and teacher. Children will also have a Phonics book and library book to bring home and read each week. These will be changed every Friday. Please make sure that Phonics books are in school every day; children can keep Phonics books in their Reading Folders.
Maths:
White Rose worksheets will be sent at the end of each unit (roughly every 2/3/4 weeks). These will come home in your child’s homework folder on a Friday. Please send these back into school by the following Thursday. We will keep these in school and support your child with any areas that we notice they are finding tricky.
Numbots: This is a new online Maths learning platform that we have bought into for children in Key Stage 1. It is available on a web browser or there is an app. Numbots helps children improve recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction through a series of games and activities. It also covers subitising and number bonds – all crucial skills for children to master in Key Stage 1 in a fun, engaging way. Little and often is the best way to use Numbots. Please speak to us if you have any questions or comments.
